Hendrick Clinic and Hendrick Anesthesia Network Chief Administrative Officer

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Hendrick Clinic and Hendrick Anesthesia Network (HAN) is responsible for overseeing and managing the operational and administrative functions of Hendrick’s employed medical groups. The CAO will work in a dyad leadership structure with the Assistant Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) of Hendrick Clinic to co-manage clinic operations in a manner that is complementary rather than duplicative. This relationship is critical in supporting medical providers with the necessary resources to deliver high-quality healthcare while ensuring the long-term operational and financial sustainability of Hendrick Clinic. The CAO of HAN is responsible for overseeing and managing the operational and administrative functions of HAN. The CAO will work with the Hendrick Health Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the physician leaders designated as HAN Chair and Vice Chair who are responsible for providing clinical leadership and medical direction to HAN. This relationship is critical in supporting medical providers with the necessary resources to deliver high-quality healthcare while ensuring the long-term operational and financial sustainability of HAN. The CAO ensures the medical group is in alignment with Hendrick Health’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values. This role involves integrating services with the broader functions of Hendrick Health to meet organizational goals. Additionally, the CAO plays a key role in developing and implementing strategic initiatives aimed at ensuring the long-term viability of the healthcare system. The CAO reports directly to the Hendrick Health Chief Operating Officer.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or other related field (or to be received within two years) Minimum Work Experience 5 to 10 years of healthcare or clinic management experience Required Licenses/Certifications None

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 Shared Responsibilities of the Hendrick Clinic Dyad
Together, the CAO and ACMO of Hendrick Clinic will:

• Advance Hendrick Health’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values: Ensure alignment with organizational principles in all actions and decisions.


• Co-Lead the HPN Board of Directors:

Develop and execute meeting agendas. Facilitate and conduct board meetings. Provide input on member recruitment and performance. Review, update, and revise bylaws as needed.

• Collaborate on Hendrick Health Strategic Initiatives: Work with the Chief Strategy and Experience Officer and other system leaders to design and implement strategic initiatives for the health system.


• Lead Strategic Planning for Hendrick Clinic: Direct the development and execution of Hendrick Clinic’s strategic plan and improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with Hendrick Health’s overall strategic objectives.


• Coordinate with Campus CAOs: Plan and collaborate with the CAOs of HMC Brownwood and HMC South to achieve strategic goals and operational objectives for each market and campus.


• Support Provider Recruitment: Collaborate with the Physician Recruiting Team and Administration to develop recruitment strategies and participate in provider recruitment.


• Cultivate Organizational Culture: Promote shared expectations and behavioral norms that reflect the desired group culture. Create and maintain an environment that supports high provider and staff engagement and satisfaction.


• Model Ethics and Integrity: Exhibit high standards of ethics and integrity, setting expectations for direct and indirect reports to follow suit.

• Enhance Communication: Foster trust through timely, transparent, and effective communication with providers and staff.

• Engage Providers and Employees: Develop processes to actively involve providers and employees in achieving Hendrick Clinic’s objectives, provide ongoing feedback, and incorporate their input into decision-making and planning.


• Optimize Provider and Staff Onboarding: Create and execute effective onboarding processes to improve provider and staff assimilation and retention.


• Monitor Performance Metrics: Track and report on group and individual performance in key areas, including patient experience, patient access, and corporate compliance.


• Support Effective Stewardship: Ensure financial performance meets the requirements necessary for the long-term sustainability of Hendrick Clinic.


• Ensure Corporate Compliance: Oversee compliance with industry regulations, standards, payor policies, and accreditation requirements.


• Oversee Administrative Policies: Develop, implement, monitor, and recommend changes to administrative policies and procedures to enhance departmental effectiveness and achieve program objectives.


• Administer the Provider Compensation Plan: Participate in Hendrick Health’s provider compensation committee. Review, evaluate, and manage the approved provider compensation plan in a manner consistent with organizational policies and procedures.


• Represent the Organization: Actively participate in community forums and events to represent Hendrick Health and Hendrick Clinic.

• Model Ethics and Integrity: Exhibit high standards of ethics and integrity, setting expectations for direct and indirect reports to follow suit.

• Drive Process Improvement Initiatives: Implement a culture of continuous improvement to enhance individual and network performance. Optimize workflows and streamline HAN operations to ensure a seamless and efficient stakeholder experience.


• Optimize Provider and Staff Onboarding: Create and execute effective onboarding processes to improve provider and staff orientation, coordination, and retention.


• Monitor and Advance Performance Metrics: Track, report, and engage HAN on group and individual performance in key areas, including patient experience, quality performance, and corporate compliance.


• Support Effective Stewardship: Ensure financial performance meets the requirements necessary for the long-term sustainability of HAN.


• Ensure Corporate Compliance: Oversee compliance with industry regulations, standards, payor policies, and accreditation requirements.

• Ensure staff and providers understand the importance of acting in accordance with Hendrick Health’s corporate compliance program.

• Oversee Administrative Policies: Develop, implement, monitor, and recommend changes to administrative policies and procedures to enhance departmental effectiveness and achieve program objectives.

 

Duties Specific to the CAO

• Ensure Effective Resource Management: Implement and maintain appropriate systems and structures for the efficient management and control of resources.


• Establish Operational Goals: Develop and execute on operational goals, priorities, and workforce responsibilities aligned with strategic objectives.


• Develop and Manage Practice Personnel: Oversee all practice personnel and delegate responsibilities to department leaders, ensuring compliance with organizational values, guidelines, and regulations. Foster staff development and mentorship to enhance professional growth and drive improved organizational outcomes.


• Resolve Operational Issues: Address and resolve issues related to practice operations in accordance with Hendrick Health, Hendrick Clinic, and Hendrick Anesthesia policies and procedures.


• Collaborate with Hendrick Health Leadership: Coordinate with leadership to secure necessary support functions, including human resources, information technology, supply chain, facility management, marketing, provider outreach, compliance, and legal resources.

• Coordinate with the Chief Financial Officer:

 

Develop and manage departmental budgets. Collect and report data for fiscal and statistical analysis. Monitor and report on budget performance for both groups and individuals. Ensure effective revenue cycle management. Establish and maintain accounting systems and internal control standards.

• Maintain Records: Prepare and retain records, files, and reports in compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and practice standards.


• Pursue Self-Development: Continuously assess personal strengths and areas for improvement, and engage in ongoing professional. development.

 

• Respond to Key Developments: React positively and proactively to developments in the field that may impact business operations.


• Perform Additional Duties: Undertake other responsibilities as assigned.
