Are you passionate about providing an individualized virtual education so students are prepared to enter the workforce or continue with postsecondary education regardless of circumstance? Heron Virtual Academy of South Carolina (HVASC) is an accredited public school serving students in grades 8-12. HVASC offers smaller staff-to-student ratios, personalized graduation plans, and daily mentoring sessions and wraparound services to help meet the educational and social/emotional needs of our unique student population.

The High School Career and Technical Education Teacher is a state certified teacher and/or alternatively certified CTE Teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an on-line environment. The High School CTE teacher must also provide instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. High School CTE Teachers monitor student progress through K12’s learning management system, and work actively with students and parents to advance each student's learning and to develop and monitor a plan for post-secondary success via online tools like Career Builder, Career Cruising, etc.

Instructional/Curricular

Effectively apply working knowledge of the K12 curriculum and Online School as it relates to grade and subject level assignmentMaintain and effectively apply knowledge of the State, Common Core and Industry Specific learning standardsSupport students/parents with placement, online school set up, curriculum and instructional issuesDevelop effective instructional tools and strategies to supplement and enhance provided curriculum

Communication

Contact the student regularly via e-mail or phoneRespond within appropriate time frame (usually one business day) to student/parent inquiriesParticipate in a weekly teacher conference call with the Academic AdministratorAttend regularly scheduled face-to-face and virtual staff meetings Records ManagementDevelop and maintain student academic progressGenerate formal reportsAlert administrators of any concerns about student progress and attendanceProcess student change in placement, as appropriateComplete semester and end of year progress reports CommunityOrganize orientation, training, social, and educational activities for students and familiesCreate a monthly newsletter or updated Web siteTravel to assigned geographic areas to support students; participate in school activities such as open houses, expos, information session and orientationsLead student/parent orientations

Assessment/Evaluation

Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience

Three (3) years of successful teacher experience within the virtual setting OREquivalent combination of education and experience

Compensation and Benefits


Non-certified staff are compensated based on a combination of education and relevant experience. We offer state health benefits and retirement through PEBA as well as deferred compensation through Empower and supplemental plans through Colonial Life.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 8-4 or as defined by the school.
