Our students are oftenover-aged and under-credited, with histories of chronic absenteeism, disengagement, and incomplete coursework. Our mission is tore-engagelearnersthrough meaningful instruction, strong relationships, and authentic learning experiences that build confidence, academic skills, and pathways toward graduation. Key Responsibilities + Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned English Language Arts instruction tailored to meet students where they are academically, socially, and emotionally. + Emphasize critical reading, writing, and communication skills through pragmatic, real-world applications and project-based learning. + Develop creative and flexible lesson plans that accommodate a wide range of abilities, learning styles, and interests. + Build trusting relationships and maintain positive rapport with students to foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment. + Use trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices to support students’ academic and social-emotional development. + Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team—including counselors, social workers, special educators, and support staff—to monitor progress, develop interventions, and align supports. + Participate actively in team meetings, intervention planning, and program development initiatives. + Track student progress through formative assessments, feedback, and individualized goal setting. + Encourage attendance and participation through motivational strategies and flexible instructional delivery, including asynchronous work, small group instruction, and individual conferencing. + Model professional, ethical behavior and uphold high expectations for student growth and achievement. + Perform other duties as assigned by Administrator Required Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field (Master’s preferred) + Valid CT Teaching Credential in English/Language Arts (or ability to obtain) + Strong understanding of differentiated instruction, restorative practices, and trauma-informed approaches + Demonstrated success in building relationships and engaging reluctant learners + Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills + Creativity and adaptability in lesson planning and classroom management Preferred Skills + Experience with credit recovery, blended learning, or competency-based education + Experience working with at-risk youth, alternative education, or nontraditional learners + Familiarity with IEPs, 504s, and intervention strategies + Bilingual or multicultural background Why Join Our Team?
