Many of our students face complex life challenges and struggle with consistent attendance, school engagement, and academic work completion. This position requires acommitted educatorwho thrives in a non-traditional environment and is dedicated to building strong relationships, delivering relevant and pragmatic instruction, and supporting students in recovering math credits and building essential life skills. Key Responsibilities + Deliver standards-aligned instruction in math with a focus on credit recovery, financial literacy, and practical application of mathematical concepts in real-world settings. + Adapt curriculum and teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students, including differentiated instruction and individualized learning plans. + Build and maintain strong, supportive relationships with students, fostering trust, respect, and motivation. + Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including counselors, case managers, and other teachers to support students' academic and personal development. + Engage students through authentic, relevant, and culturally responsive pedagogy that emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving. + Provide regular feedback, progress monitoring, and support strategies to help students meet personal and academic goals. + Support efforts to increase student attendance and engagement, including outreach and flexible instructional approaches (e.g., project-based learning, small groups, blended learning). + Create a positive, inclusive, and trauma-informed classroom environment that promotes student agency and accountability. + Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the school/program’s mission. + Perform other duties as assigned by Administrator Required Qualifications + Valid [State] Teaching Certification in Secondary Mathematics (or ability to obtain). + Demonstrated experience or strong interest in working with at-risk youth or in alternative education settings. + Deep understanding of and commitment to equity, trauma-informed practice, and social-emotional learning. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an emphasis on rapport and relationship-building. + Capacity to be flexible, adaptable, and responsive to student needs and evolving program structures. + Ability to design and implement creative, engaging, and relevant lessons aligned with both academic and life skills outcomes. Preferred Qualifications + Experience teaching financial literacy, budgeting, or real-life math applications. + Background in credit recovery, competency-based learning, or personalized instruction models. + Bilingual or multilingual preferred. + Familiarity with restorative practices, motivational interviewing, or youth development frameworks is a plus.
