**JOB SUMMARY** **:**
_Proctors Collaborative is the largest cultural institution in the Capital Region with performing arts venues in Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga, and education, civic engagement and economic development initiatives throughout the region. The Collaborative School of the Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community._
The Collaborative School of the Arts at Proctors will present the annual HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS (HSMTA) in partnership with The Broadway League ® and the Times Union. This program celebrates the achievements of the region’s theatre students, highlighting the importance of musical theatre and arts education in the greater Capital Region of New York State.
The HSMTA program culminates on the Mainstage at Proctors with an award ceremony modeled after the Tony Awards ® , to recognize outstanding musical theatre productions and students. Winners are announced for each category interspersed with lively production numbers from the shows nominated for Best Musical and finalists for Best Actor and Best Actress. Additionally, students selected from each participating school perform in the opening and closing numbers. A live orchestra accompanies all of these performances, with direction, musical direction and choreography by local theatre professionals.
The Collaborative School of the Arts is seeking a Music Director with professional experience.
**RESPONSIBILTIES:**
+ Serve as vocal coach as required throughout the show.
+ Serve as orchestra conductor for the show.
+ Play keyboards for rehearsals and performances.
+ Oversee orchestra read through.
+ Teach/vocal coach opening number, closing number and “Outstanding Lead Performers” medleys for HSMTA final ceremony.
+ Attend rehearsals for final ceremony.
+ Create vocal rehearsals tracks for opening and closing to send to schools/teachers with help of Director and administration.
+ Attend production meetings and rehearsals for final ceremony.
+ Create or improvise transition/playoff music of some kind during the show (covering entrances and exits of presenters). Piano only
**AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD HAVE:**
+ 3-5 years of professional experience musical directing large cast musicals.
+ Excellent piano and keyboard skills.
+ Professional experience with all styles of music for musical theatre.
+ Must have teaching experience and working with students.
+ Experience working with large group of performers (50-70 students).
+ Ability to work with a range of vocal/theatre experience from novice to experienced.
+ Must be dependable and self-motivated.
+ Must have professional demeanor and appearance.
+ Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
**CONTRACT PERIOD:**
+ Production meetings January - leading up to ceremony in the spring as needed
1. Rehearsals: May 3 rd – May 10 th , 2025 as follows:
+ Saturday, May 3 student rehearsal 9am-4:00pm
+ Monday, May 5 student rehearsal 4:00-8:00pm
+ Tuesday, May 6 rehearsal with band 9am-4pm. half hour lunch. 6.5 hour call
+ Wednesday May 7 student rehearsal 4:00-8:00pm
+ Thursday, May 8 student rehearsal 4:00-8:00pm
+ Friday, May 9 rehearsal 5pm orchestra called from 4:00-8:00pm 3 hour call
+ Saturday May 10 rehearsal and show. 2pm orchestra called. 2:00-5:30 rehearsal 3.5-hour call. 6:30 half hour. 7-9:30 show call.
+ HSMTA Final ceremony: 7p.m. May 10 th , 2025

**PAY RATE: $2000 total. Stipend. All offers of employment are based upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.** This is a temporary position with no benefits.
**Orchestra –** is professional orchestra with members of local musicians’ union as agreed in annual contract. Music Director plays keyboard. Additional orchestra consists of three pieces as follows: bass, percussion and either guitar OR reeds depending on show needs. Four pieces total. Orchestra plays opening and closing and Outstanding Musical nominee scores (9). Individual Outstanding Lead Performer Medleys are piano only. Other Production Manager for Proctors will request through music union contractor for needs and communicate with all.
Orchestrations are done by contractors and will be provided prior to rehearsal.
