This is currently a hybrid position working 3 days in office and 2 days work from home a week at Rochester Hills, MI; Elmendorf, near San Antonio, TX; or Lisle, IL. The HV Battery Module and Pack Assembly Mechanical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the proper assembly of the RESS. This position requires a proactive approach to optimizing assembly processes, conducting rigorous testing, and integrating lessons learned into project documentation and requirements management systems. The work will include collaboration with our suppliers on externally sourced battery solutions in addition to co-development work with our TRATON partners.
Responsibilities Assembly Oversight: Lead the assembly process for RESS units from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to design specifications, manufacturing constraints, and regulatory standardsRegulatory Compliance: Ensure all assembly processes comply with relevant regulations and standards, including OSHA requirements, ergonomic guidelines, and safety protocols related to battery handlingQuality Assurance: Develop module and pack assembly quality requirements; implement interim and End-of-Line (EoL) testing protocols to detect and rectify assembly issues before they progress to the next phase of productionProcess Optimization: Collaborate with the manufacturing team to optimize assembly processes, improve cycle-times, and address any issues affecting efficiency or qualityContinuous Improvement: Flow lessons learned from assembly processes into the Verification, Certification, and Testing (VCT) procedures, requirements documentation, and AUROS (Automated Requirements Object Synthesis) or equivalent systemsProblem Solving: Investigate and resolve assembly-related issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to production schedules and product qualityDocumentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of assembly processes, test results, and corrective actions taken, ensuring traceability and compliance with quality management systemsCollaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including design engineers, quality assurance, and operations to ensure seamless integration of assembly processes with overall project goals. Work with modeling teams to setup vibration, fatigue, and thermal FEA analyses.
