**Job Title:** High Voltage Circuit Breaker Technical Leader II **Location:** Charlotte, NC **Job Summary and Description:** This position is part of EPRI’s Substations research program, leading the team’s circuit breaker R&D portfolio. The portfolio includes projects that support the existing population of breakers, as well as projects that investigate the next generation of breakers. This includes investigations of failure modes and degradation characteristics, evaluation of emerging and commercially available monitoring technologies, SF6 replacement technologies, root cause and forensic analysis etc. **To be successful in this position, a candidate should be able to:** + Identify research opportunities and develop research plans to address the needs + Create industry-leading research results through effective execution of high-quality projects + Transfer value to member organizations through verbal, written, virtual, and web channels + Manage research projects effectively, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously + Lead team of in-house engineers, subject matter experts and outside contractors + Represent the organization to outside organizations and maintain customer relations, including engagement in R&D program activities with participating organizations + Support Program Manager and other senior leadership in developing proposals + Assists Project/Program managers in assessing customer needs, formulating technical approaches, preparing proposals, technical publications/papers, and making presentations + Apply strong technical knowledge of circuit breakers to the research + Review progress and evaluate project results of the technical research + Work with minimal direction and supervision + Work as collaborator as well as team leader + Communicate effectively in through technical presentations and technical writing **The ideal candidate would:** + Have ten years of experience in high voltage testing, circuit breaker/switchgear/gas insulated substation project development, design, manufacturing, commission, repair, maintenance, or refurbishment (preferred) + Have an advanced degree (graduate, doctoral) in electrical engineering (preferred) + Possess strong technical expertise and has demonstrated experience in areas of high voltage circuit breaker and gas insulation substation (GIS) – design, testing, routine maintenance, root cause and forensic analysis + Be intimately familiar with the installed base as well as new and emerging circuit breaker and GIS technologies + Have experience with high voltage testing; prior experience working for high voltage laboratory or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) + Be knowledgeable of industry standards and guidelines e.g., IEEE C37, CIGRE, IEC + Have strong knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment and electrical systems + Be well-connected and recognized within utility and vendor personnel community + Have strong knowledge of testing medium and high voltage circuit breakers, gas insulated substations, switchgear, and control systems + Be familiar with technical studies – e.g., short circuit studies, EMTP analysis, overdutied circuit breaker assessments, fault and disturbance analysis, root cause and failure investigations The salary range for this position is $118,750 USD to $157,500 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location. This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan. This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
