High Voltage Electrician
Overview Responsible for performing a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of high voltage electric energy. Maintains electrical systems and components of electrical power distribution and generating equipment. Performs operations and maintenance duties to maintain power to telecommunications equipment and maintains the facility’s physical electrical distribution system in good repair. Responsibilities Perform maintenance, switching operations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning on transformers, switches, power circuit breakers, metal-clad switchgear line-ups, manholes, cables, protective relays, metering circuits, control circuits, and other electrical equipment used in the distribution of electric power at the 5kV, 10kV, and 20kV voltage levels. Repairs, adjusts, and installs electrical equipment including but not limited to programmable controllers and recorders, transmitters and transducers, motor control centers, power lift trucks, building lighting, heating, AC and ventilation equipment, electrical motors, complex electronic devices, control panels, relays, conduit and switches. Operates various components on the medium and high voltage distribution electrical system including isolation switches, interrupters, capacitor banks, transformers, voltage regulators. Installs, modifies, connects and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution lines, insulators, grounding systems, fuses, poles, air switches and lighting arresters Operates excavating equipment such as a JLG and or boom truck, and similar equipment. Performs various electrical trade functions such as installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment (i.e., substations, switchboards, circuit breakers, transformers, and associated hardware), associated with electrical distribution system Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to install new systems or equipment and diagnose and repair trouble in existing electrical systems and equipment. Assists in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of high voltage (13,800 volts) switchgear, electric switches, exciter, electric meters and other electrical equipment and apparatus. Qualifications Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certifications: Two years related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. High school education or equivalent. Accredited professional trade school or successful completion of apprenticeship program or military training for the electrical field. NICET 3 or NETA certification is a plus. Experience: 10 years’ work experience in the electrical trade.
