High Voltage Senior Technician

What You Can Expect

As the High Voltage Senior Technician based in Houston, TX, you will maintain and support the electrical system performance of our fleet of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the United States. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring ENGIE’s high-voltage systems operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with industry-leading standards. You will maintain and repair ENGIE’s fleet of BESS Substations and BESS Balance of Plant (BOP) electrical systems, ensuring their compliance with the International Electrical Testing Association Maintenance Testing Specifications (NETA-MTS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and North American Electric Reliability Corporation Protection and Control (NERC PRC-005C) standards. You will also verify the commissioning of these systems in alignment with International Electrical Testing Association Acceptance Testing Specifications (NETA-ATS), manufacture specifications, and regulatory requirements.

 

Reporting to the High Voltage Program Manager, your primary responsibilities encompass:

Maintain and repair high-voltage equipment, including transformers, breakers, switchgear, cables, and associated BESS systems, ensuring adherence to company maintenance procedures, industry standards, and safety guidelines Verify the commissioning of high-voltage systems in alignment with NETA-ATS standards, collaborating with third-party contractors and external teams during the construction and commissioning phases of new projects Troubleshoot and resolve faults in high-voltage electrical systems, applying innovative solutions to solve complex problems and minimize downtime Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure maintenance and commissioning tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and within established timelines Maintain accurate records of maintenance and commissioning activities, generate detailed reports for internal stakeholders, and update computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) as required Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, including NFPA 70E, OSHA standards, IEEE safety guidelines, and NETA safety procedures, fostering a culture of safety excellence

 

What You’ll Bring

Minimum high school diploma or technical certificate Minimum five (5) years of experience with high-voltage electrical equipment in testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance, including specific experience in renewable energy systems, particularly BESS NETA Level I certification; in lieu of certification, a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience and a commitment to ongoing education in high-voltage technology and testing methods Strong understanding of electrical theory, high-voltage principles, and grounding systems Hands-on experience with high-voltage equipment, including transformers, switchgear, switchboards, ATS, breakers, and cables Extensive knowledge and safety awareness of voltage systems ranging from 120VAC to 345kV Solid understanding of AC and DC control voltages, with a focus on 125VDC floating ground control voltages and systems Familiarity with industry standards, such as IEEE, NETA, NFPA, ANSI, and IEC Proficiency in performing advanced electrical tests on a variety of equipment including: Transformers, SF6 Breakers, Vacuum Breakers, Medium Voltage Cables, Air Switches, Switchgear/Switchboards, metering & Relaying, SCADA and Control Systems, Thermography Proficiency in testing and maintenance of critical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switchgear, capacitors, voltage regulators, and various substation components Experienced in the commissioning and integration of SCADA systems, with basic PLC troubleshooting skills Ability to perform cable repairs and welding; advantageous for maintaining high-voltage systems Knowledge of UPS systems, including substation batteries and chargers Proficient in LOTO procedures, arc flash protection, and adherence to NFPA 70E safety standards Expert in the use of PPE with a thorough understanding of high-voltage-specific hazards Exceptional analytical skills to diagnose complex equipment failures and implement effective long-term solutions

 

 

Additional Details

This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy with a minimum of three (3) days working in office.  For candidates residing in remote cities in Texas, occasional travel to our Houston, TX office location is required, with a minimum of 1 week per month Must be available to travel domestically up to 75% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range:  $36.00 - $55.17 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
