Job Concepts Function of Work: To provide supervision, guidance, logistical support, and limited administration to a large group of personnel performing specialized highway, road, drainage, traffic control, lock operation, bridge operation, or bridge structure work within a district or statewide. Level of Work: Supervisor. Supervision Received: Broad review from a maintenance specialist or maintenance supervisor at district level or higher. Supervision Exercised: Direct over Mobile Equipment or Bridge and Lock Operators of all levels or other repair/maintenance personnel. Location of Work: Department of Transportation and Development. Job Distinctions: Differs from Highway Foreman 1 by its supervision of a large group of personnel engaged in specialized highway maintenance (e.g., bridge construction, traffic control signals, marking, and signs)or bridge/navigational lock operation in a district or statewide. Differs from district maintenance superintendents by lack of overall responsibility for management of all maintenance activities for a district. Examples of Work 50% Supervises a bridge crew engaged in maintenance and repair of bridges, roadways, drainage structures, and other highway facilities. Has experience in the proper repair and installation of highway and roadway components. Can read and understand standard plans and detail drawings in order to perform proper maintenance and repairs. Repairs and maintains drainage structures, bridge rails, guard rails, embankments, fences, pavements, buildings, sidewalks, foundations masonry, stringers, caps piles abutments and related items. Provides leadership and training in order to work safely and efficiently. Has knowledge and responsibility for traffic control to protect staff and the public. 20% Documents and tracks all work. Accounts for all labor, equipment, and materials associated with each assignment and responsible to use a personal computer tablet (Tablet PC) to track daily work in LAGOV. 15% Coordinates daily work with other groups, maintenance gangs, district wide gangs and assists other bridge maintenance gangs on large and complex projects. Communicates with others regularly to provide press releases, maintenance of traffic and awareness of daily activities. 5% Uses and performs routine maintenance of numbered equipment. Responsible for the proper training of all employees in safe operation and maintenance of equipment. 5% Conducts annual employee performance measures according to the DOTD Performance Evaluation System (PES). 5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
