HIM Release of Information Lead
Under the direction of the Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor or Manager of Release of Information (ROI) and Chart Completion. This position collaborates with Epic IT staff to ensure the integrity of the printed legal health record is maintained by performing random audits of the Epic ROI print groups/reports and comparing them to the corresponding clinical content within Epic. In addition, this position leads the ROI staff in assuring proper release of legal, risk, and high-profile requests for protected health information (PHI) to assist with mitigating risk and assure timely submission and quality reporting for the organization. Oversight of high-risk internal and external requests for the release of PHI to Valleywise Health Risk Management and Legal Department(s). Performs quality assurance, clinical pertinence, and integrity reviews of correspondence, records, and responses related to high-risk internal and external requests for release of PHI in accordance with HIPAA and other Federal and State regulations. Ensures compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations as evidenced by appropriate handling of PHI, promoting confidentiality, and using discretion when handling patient information. Responsible for delivering accurate, relevant, and error-free information that can be used to make informed business decisions. Assists with the planning, implementation, and coordination of quality improvement projects and cost-saving initiatives. Ensures requests for access to Protected Health Information (PHI) are processed in compliance with State/Federal regulatory standards, hospital policies, and procedures. Hourly Pay Range: $19.73 - $29.10
Qualifications
Education: Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Working towards or completion of an Associate degree program is preferred.
Experience: Must have a minimum of four (4) years of Health Information Management experience working with an Electronic Health Record system that demonstrates a strong understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Electronic Health Record experience is required. Prefer experience in providing classroom and/or on-site training.
Specialized Training: Must successfully complete Valleywise Health provided training related to HIPAA and state and Federal regulations as they pertain to health records. Epic/Quanum system training is preferred.
Certification/Licensure: Requires current certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) through AHIMA or must be able to obtain within twenty-four 24 months of hire into position. Current certification as a Certified Release of Information Specialist (CRIS) through AHIOS is preferred. Current certification as a Certified Revenue Cycle is preferred. Current Notary Public in the State of Arizona is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be able to perform all functions required of the HIM ROI Specialist I, HIM ROI Specialist II, and Health Record Content Analysis. Requires the ability to work well independently in a fast-paced environment. Must demonstrate the ability to learn within a short period of time. Must demonstrate proficiency in HIM database systems, Electronic Health Record (EHR), and Electronic Document Management (EDM) systems. Must demonstrate knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security regulations as evidenced by appropriately handling PHI, promoting confidentiality, and using discretion when handling patient information. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook). Must be able to categorize data in electronic and hard copy formats. Must possess good interpersonal communication and strong customer service skills both verbally and in writing, including knowledge of basic grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Requires excellent organizational and team-building skills. Must be quality-conscious and customer-oriented. Must be able to influence and adjust positively to change and follow through on all assignments. Must be self-motivated and able to plan work activities and set effective priorities that are aligned with departmental and Valleywise Health operational and fiscal goals. Requires knowledge in the use of a computer, fax machine, copier, and scanner. Must have knowledge of health information management principles, state and federal laws, regulatory bodies, and techniques for managing and releasing protected health information. Must have a solid knowledge of the Health Information Management department workflow process. Must demonstrate working knowledge of all HIM database systems, Electronic Health Records (EHR), and Electronic Document Management (EDM) systems. Requires strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and DNV standards. Must be approachable, people-oriented, and a good listener. Must be able to communicate effectively and have excellent customer service skills. Requires the ability to be a creative, independent thinker. Must exhibit a high degree of professionalism, customer service, and enthusiasm. Must possess solid analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines with independent judgment. Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Strong attention to detail is required. Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
