GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Cardiac Nurse Practitioners, who will support the Cardiology Division, which is part of Medical Service at Los Angeles Healthcare System to include the West Los Angeles Medical Center and Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center. The Cardiology Division has an urgent need for Contract Nurse Practitioners, who will provide diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up patient care services to Arrhythmia Service and Heart Failure Program for a performance period of one (1) year between February 15, 2025, and through February 14, 2026. QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONTRACT NURSE PRACTITIONERS (NP) a. A current license in at least one (1) state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia. b. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by an American Heart Association approved vendor. c. A current curriculum vitae (CV) which identifies the provider’s education and professional qualifications commensurate with the position or specialty for which they are being offered to perform. d. A minimum of one (1) year direct patient care experience within the last three (3) years. e. Prior one (1) year direct patient care experience in cardiology. f. Be current on tuberculosis testing, rubella testing, and all immunizations prior to performing services. g. Have no health or physical disability restrictions that interfere with the performance of duties per this SOW. h. Have the knowledge and ability to use computers and technology efficiently in the course of the duties and responsibilities outlined herein. i. Certification requirements: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNPC-AG) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The NPs functions within the policies where assigned and has professional and legal responsibility to the patient. The duties and responsibilities of the NP include: a. Executes position responsibilities independently and collaboratively in accordance with the scope and Standards of Advanced Nursing Practice within the specialty area. b. Pacemaker, Implanted Cardioverter-Defibrillator, and Cardiac Implanted Electronic Device evaluation and management. c. Management of patients with heart failure d. Monitoring Exercise Tolerance Tests. e. Care decisions and management of new and follow up patients presenting with cardiac diagnosis. f. Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff. g. Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses disease prevention and health promotion issues while administering quality patient care. h. Demonstrate advanced assessment and decision-making skills. i. Maintains legible, accurate, and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations. j. Documents care/visit in Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) appropriately, accurately and concisely. Utilizes Point of Enrollment (POE). k. Follows clinical guidelines and standards of practice for health promotion, maintenance and illness prevention. l. Completes health histories and other clinical documentation consistently and with pertinent information. m. Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic, and long-term healthcare issues. n. Care and treatment plans are consistent with assessments. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests appropriately. o. Selects/furnishes (prescribes) or recommends pharmacological agents and durable medical equipment appropriately. p. Sets priorities to provide care in an organized and timely manner. q. Presents cases in a concise, organized manner. Participates in formal and informal performance evaluations and professional development. r. Evaluates own performance according to the Advance Practice Nurse (APN) Scope of Practice standards of professional and regulatory bodies and takes actions to improve practice. s. Maintains mandatory requirements and competency standards. t. Treats staff, patients and family with respect and dignity. u. Uses clinical research techniques in decision-making and in making recommendations. Identifies and documents appropriate International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding for patient encounters. v. Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications. w. Will comply with performance measure identified by VA Central Office. x. Complies with safety facility patient guidelines and other mandatory requirements as directed.
