In a continuous quality improvement environment, the HIS Coding Coordinator is responsible for enhancing and maintaining current processes within the department. Drawing on extensive experience and sound judgment, the Coordinator plans and achieves departmental goals while overseeing and directing the work of others. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

Conduct regular audits to ensure correct coding and documentation practices. Provide ongoing feedback and training to coding staff (both on and offshore) on coding updates, policy changes, and technologies to enhance coding accuracy and efficiency. Work closely with clinical staff, physicians, and other departments to resolve coding issues, ensures correct and timely documentation, and address discrepancies. Collaborate with billing and reimbursement teams to ensure timely submission of claims and appropriate reimbursement levels. Help resolve coding-related billing issues and denials. Maintains a comprehensive awareness of all insurance company/payer updates and educates the team on those updates. Identify opportunities for process improvement and work with the team to implement changes that increase efficiency and accuracy in coding workflows. Prepare reports on coding productivity, quality, and compliance for department management. Coordinates new employee orientation/education/on-the-job training. Exhibits exceptional customer service skills, utilizing AIDET. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
