Histology Assistant
**Location:** Avera McKennan Hospital **Worker Type:** Regular **Work Shift:** Primarily days with rotating weekends and holidays (United States of America) **Pay Range:** _The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience._ $17.50 - $23.00 **Position Highlights** **This position may be eligible for a $1,500 sign on bonus.** Work schedule: 8 hour shifts Monday - Friday between 7am - 6pm. Work where you matter.** **A Brief Overview** Assists other personal in the Histology Lab by assisting with gross, determining appropriate processing of tissue, accessioning specimens, verbal and electronic communication with customers, and perform any other non-technical duties when asked by the technical staff and or supervisor. **What you will do** + Assists PA or Pathologist with grossing specimen. Make proper determination of process technique and pre-processing times and solutions. + Accessions specimens into to the system. Label specimen correctly, fill out grossing sheet with correct information, and label cassettes correctly. + Identifies and resolves routine specimen acceptability and test order problems. Refers incomplete patient information or non-routine identified problems to appropriate individuals for problem resolution. + Performs miscellaneous tasks including but not limited to: specimen filing, sending reference lab specimens, and disposal of tissue + Assists the technical and support staff with other duties as needed. + Assists with receiving and distribution of supplies associated with the processing area. + Assists with analysis, collection and maintenance of records as required by regulatory agencies and/or federal, state of local law. + Performs housekeeping duties to ensure work area is clean and orderly. **Essential Qualifications** The individual must be able to work the hours specified.
