This position involves a variety of complex tasks, including the collection and labeling of evidentiary materials, maintaining instruments and supplies, and ensuring the overall appearance of the morgue,

The technician must possess a working knowledge of anatomy and the ability to handle the psychological aspects of the job, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to biohazard measures

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma or GED EquivalentKnowledge of anatomy as applied to performing autopsiesAbility to physically perform job functions, including lifting and moving decedents

Essential Functions:

Assist Pathologists and Medical Examiners with autopsies and external examinations.Collect and label evidentiary materials including toxicology and laboratory samplesMaintain instruments, formalin, solutions, containers, equipment, and supplies for autopsiesSet up supplies and equipment for use during autopsies.Weigh and measure bodies, maintaining the overall appearance of the morgueTake muscle, skin, bone, and tissue samples for later use.Handle contaminated specimens and biological hazardous waste appropriately.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff, law enforcement, and funeral directors. Assist with evisceration, dissection, and restoration of the body during postmortem examinations.
