Job Description

The Pathobiology Research associate will perform routine and specialized histology techniques, wet lab work, data acquisition, and compilation using state-of-the-art molecular pathology techniques.

The incumbent will interface closely with other scientists, veterinary pathologists and histotechnologists in a client environment as well as other cross-functional project teams to provide timely, high-quality data to support the client.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Conduct routine histology techniques including tissue processing, trimming of tissues of diverse origin, embedding, paraffin block microtomy and cryo-sectioningSetup and perform routine pathology staining techniques including H&E and special stainsPerform novel molecular pathology assays including IHC, RNAscope, multiplexing using automated platforms (Ventana and Leica) and manual methodsPerform routine maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment, keep accurate laboratory records, and ensure proper archiving of pathology specimensPerform digital image analyses, while generating quantitative data using a variety of Image analysis softwares (e.g. HALO, MATLAB) to support discovery pathology programs in the client environment.Work with board-certified anatomic pathologists to review, QC, and approve algorithmsCareful record keeping, follows good laboratory and GLP-like practices.

Qualifications

Required Education Level and experience

bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with 3-4 years of experiencemaster’s degree with 1-2 years of experienceExperience working in a research or pharmaceutical-based histology laboratory.

Required Knowledge/Skills

Must have experience with histology techniques such as tissue processing and stainingExperience with scanning and digital pathology platforms is preferred.Ability to multi-task, prioritize and provide timely, high-quality results on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environmentExcellent written and oral communication skills are required

Other Requirements

ASCP certification (HT or HTL) preferred.

Additional Details: 

The position is full-time, first shift, Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. Candidates must be flexible to adapt to schedule changes requiring shift changes and/or weekend work, and overtime may be required as needed. Candidates living within a commutable distance of Boston, MA are encouraged to apply.
