Position Description
The Histology Lab Educator is a member of an interdisciplinary team and acts as the lead for learning in the histology/pathology laboratory environment. This position assumes a variety of roles such as subject matter expert, coach, change agent, researcher, and consultant. The position is responsible for development of and implementing the Histology Lab’s overall education program. Areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to, delivery of education to Histology Techs and Residents, competency development and verification, orientation of newly hired Histology Lab employees, and support for the Histology Lab’s Residency program.
Position Requirements
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Five (5) years of experience in a histology/pathology laboratory. Two (2) years of experience in training and/or education in a histology/pathology laboratory. National HT/HTL certification through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
Computer keyboard and information system experience. Immuno chemistry experience and/or training. Bachelor’s degree in Proficient with all of the equipment that the lab has in use and know how to troubleshoot, program and maintenance schedules Experience with Stainers, Coverslippers, Tissue Processors, Microtomes and Paraffin Pots. Proficient in all areas covered in the HT (ASCP) exam including, but not limited to: Fixation, Processing, Embedding/Microtomy, Staining, and Laboratory Operations. Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.Service Area Overview
