MAJOR FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, prepares microscopic tissue slides from surgical specimens for diagnostic purposes, ensuring that all specimens are properly and appropriately collected and labeled. Duties include embedding tissue samples, microtomy and slide preparation for routine Histology and Frozen Sectioning. Knowledge of automated special staining, Immunohistochemical and In Situ hybridization staining using different staining platforms is required. Other required skills include computer knowledge; the ability to communicate with members of the healthcare team, including excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to maintain established departmental competencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate of Science degree in laboratory medicine or related field, or Graduate of Technical School or Academic High School Diploma or equivalent and appropriate training experience
Experience: 1 to 3 years clinical laboratory experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure: ASCP or equivalent, certified, or eligible required
Certification must be achieved within 12 months after hire date
