Job Summary

Summary<br>Responsible for preparing tissue specimens by treating with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis.<br><br>Does this position require Patient Care?<br>No<br><br>Essential Functions<br>-Performs specimen collection, accessioning and logging routines. <br>
-Assists pathologists with tissue grossing procedures. <br>
-Processes, embeds, and sections tissues for slides. <br>
-Performs preventive maintenance and quality-control procedures such as oiling and cleaning microtomes according to schedule, recording temperatures on various instruments, changing the processor according to procedure, and changing staining solutions. <br>
-Ensures aseptic techniques and observes health safety protocols during the cleanup procedure to minimize risks to self and co-workers. <br>
-Observes hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices and maintains a safe, clean, and prepared work area. <br>


 

Qualifications

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Graduate Certificate Histology preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Experience Clinical or Histology experience 0-1 year preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcifications, processing, embedding, routine and special stains and frozen sections. - Must be able to perform certain special stains (i.e. Oil Red O). - Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills. - Participates in relevant continuing education programs.
