Histology Technician
Community Health Systems
***Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday**
**Job Summary:** Under the direction of the Histology Manager, prepares tissue and body fluids for examination by pathologists. May supervise the work of histology aides or trainees. Assists in the preparation of tissue and body fluids for examination by Pathologists and Pathology Assistants. Answers phone and triages problems or questions as appropriate. Helps collect and analyze data for Quality Assurance. Assists Pathologists with special procedures (i.e. frozen sections, FNA, EBUS). Participates in committees outside of the department as needed.
**Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications**
**Education:** Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED).
ASCP Registration as a Histotech;
**OR** a preferred minimum of two years of training in histologic and cytologic technique under the direction of a pathologist.
**Other:**
+ Requires knowledge of histology procedures including specimen embedding, tissue sectioning, and staining techniques.
+ Requires basic analytical and organizational skills in order to prepare high quality slides appropriate for each diagnostic test.
+ Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers.
+ Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, both verbal and written.
