Job Responsibilities
Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic examPerform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimensSection the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slidePerform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sectionsProcess mounted sections through routine and special staining proceduresProperly orient and embed surgical tissue specimensPrepare the stains and reagents needed for special proceduresReport accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care Operate and maintain manual and automated instrumentsPerform and document equipment maintenance as neededRecord equipment log data in an accurate and timely mannerPerform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policiesFollow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reportingDocument problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as neededRequirements
Associate's degree in Histology; no experience required ORAssociate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science plus 1 year of experience (within the past 5 years) or completion of a Histology program (min 9 months)Previous experience in histology is preferred but not requiredFamiliarity with routine histology procedures and equipmentImmunohistochemistry experience is a plusComfortability embedding both large and small specimensAbility to accurately read all labels and documentsHighly organized with a strong attention to detailExperience working in a high volume laboratory environment is desirableFamiliarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocolsMust be able to pass a standardized color vision screenFamiliarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocolsMust be able to pass a standardized color vision screenIf you're looking for a career that offers opportunities for growth, continual development, professional challenge and the chance to make a real difference, apply today!
