About the Department
Job Summary
The Histotechnician will perform various routine technical duties related to the provision of these services. This will, include, but not limited to: research material retrieval and refilling assisting clinical study, usage data collection and entry, bookkeeping, routine equipment prevention and maintenance, paraffin tissue processing& embedding, paraffin and cryo-sectioning of human as well as animal research tissues, histological staining including H&E and special staining and immunohistochemistry. Additional functions will be added as core facility services increase.
Responsibilities
Data Entry: entering the information from histology bulling sheets in to OSRF billing system for invoice generation and payment collection.
Organizing and refilling paper work form all studies.
Pulling and re-filing archival slides and blocks from Department of Pathology.
Equipment maintenance following SOPs and supply stocking.
Tissue processing & embedding, paraffin and cryosectioning, H&E, special staining and immunohistochemical staining for research projects.
Training investigators in the use of Core Facility equipment.
Prepare study-related documentation, such as protocol worksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, institutional review board documents, or progress reports.
Prepares quality and safety control measures for the laboratory, such as checks of equipment, temperature control, and documentation of quality improvement projects.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Education:
Bachelor's degree preferred, in biological science.
Experience:
Laboratory experience preferred (histology, microtomy and microscopy).
Skills in paraffin and cryo-sectioning and immunohistochemistry ideal.
Preferred Competencies
Computer knowledge and skills preferred: excel, access, etc.
Written, verbal and organization skills.
Must be able to see small letter and number and color differentiation.
We require an individual who is highly motivated, reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and as a member of a team. Training will be provided for all tasks.
Working Conditions
Required to sit, stand and use scientific and laboratory equipment for extended periods.
Light work (exerting 10-25 pounds of force), and work with hands.
