Job Summary
Responsible for the accurate and timely performance of stain and slide preparations that contribute to the diagnosis.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for the collection, labeling, processing, and distribution of specimens as required.
• Perform the necessary calculations, recording, and reporting of test results for inclusion in patient, departmental, and administrative records.
• Use and monitor quality control programs within predetermined parameters.
• Recognize malfunction of instruments and equipment, performing basic troubleshooting procedures and routine maintenance as necessary.
• Prepare certain reagents.
• Recognize errors in results, taking corrective action based on preset strategies and criteria.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and adequate inventory and supply levels.
• Actively participate in training and continuing education programs which include: demonstrations, informal lectures, bench training, and on-the-job training of new employees.
• Perform student and trainee evaluations as requested.
• Responsible for own work and capable of assuming responsibility for the work of a person in a direct, supportive position if asked to do so by the supervisor.
• Assist in the evaluation, notification, and/or design of procedures or applicable products as assigned by the supervisor.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education
• Associate's Degree (Required) Education: Associate Degree in Medical Technology or related field Experience: 2 year formalized training program for Histotechnician.
