specimens for gross and microscopic examination by pathologist. Performs a variety of histology
procedures, including preparations of solutions, special staining techniques, embedding, mounting tissue
specimens on glass slides, maintaining laboratory equipment and related duties. Works with transcription
and pathologists to communicate the needs of the physicians
Position Summary:
Performs laboratory procedures according to protocols consistent with Clinical
Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988. According to prescribed techniques, prepares surgical and autopsy
specimens for gross and microscopic examination by pathologist. Performs a variety of histology procedures, including preparations of solutions, special staining techniques, embedding, mounting tissue specimens on glass slides, maintaining laboratory equipment and related duties. Works with transcription and pathologists to communicate the needs of the physicians
Shift: Day Shift - Mon-Fri Hours can be variable from 5am-4pm. This position will primarily be 6am-2:30pm
What Histotechnologist will do:
Receives specimens, clarifies test requests, checks specimen integrity/labeling. Organizes, prepares and processes specimens.Processes specimens: logs in computer, processes specimens in tissue processer, embeds, slices specimens using microtome and stains slides and cover slips for pathology review.Operates and maintains equipment and participates in quality control activities to ensure the accuracy of lab results.Files slides and paraffin blocks; maintains slide files for future reference and research purposes; retrieves and re-files slides/blocks as requested bypathologists.Suggests ways to continually improve quality, productivity, costs and work processes.Cooperates with staff in achieving team goals by initiating or helping others with tasks when time permits
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in science or health related field, with lab internshipMust have ASCP certification or equivalent or be eligible.Employment experience preferred.Articulates and demonstrates commitment to the philosophy, values, mission and vision of the organizationPosition Highlights and Benefits:
