Schedule: Full Time

Shift: M-F 6am-2:30pm

The role you’ll contribute: Processes specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, processing, preparing and staining slides for microscopic examination by the pathologist.

· Assists in training new employees and histology students/interns while providing leadership and mentoring to

histotechnicians, fellow histotechnologists, and laboratory support staff to maintain optimal operations and outstanding

customer service.

· May perform quality control testing, equipment maintenance, identification of problems that may affect test

performance or reporting of test results and troubleshooting practices.

· Ensures the analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods.

· Maintains established facility and department policies and procedures.

· Performs analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special histologic

staining, frozen sectioning, cover slipping and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical and body fluid specimens.

· Participates in proficiency testing program as assigned. Ensures that proficiency testing deadlines are met and samples

are analyzed in the same manner as patient samples.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

REQUIRED: •Associate's degree in a related field

PREFERRED: •Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent

•One year of experience as a Histology technician/technologist in a Histology laboratory setting

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

•In licensure states, must hold licensure as a Histotechnologist for the department or location assignment as applicable to the state -OR –

•In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent as a Histotechnologist unless grandfathered per state requirement
