The purpose of this position is to perform tasks and duties associated with providing the general public with knowledge about the St. Charles community as well as the history of St. Charles. This position is part-time and is not scheduled to work more than 1,499 hours per year. Note: no benefits are included with this part-time position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Think you know all there is to discover about Saint Charles? Think again! A slate of new tour offerings will encourage visitors and residents to connect with the rich past of the area like never before. Beyond the gas lamps, brick walkways, and quaint architecture of Main Street, lie the fascinating stories of pioneers, scoundrels, legislators, adventurers, and ordinary citizens who left their mark on Saint Charles. Trained HisTOURy Guides will bring the past to life as they escort guests through over 250 years of history. Whether giving commentary on a motorcoach or leading a walking tour through the historic district, these engaging storytellers are able to weave historical facts and information about Saint Charles into entertaining narratives that give guests of all ages a deeper appreciation of the people and events that have shaped the legacy of this fascinating river city. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. + Have a fun and outgoing personality and be comfortable engaging guests of all ages + Educate our guests about the city of Saint Charles and its history + Have the ability to memorize large quantities of information + Be comfortable creating tour commentary that weaves historical facts into interesting stories + Be comfortable with standing/walking for long periods of time outdoors along the varied terrain of historic Main Street (which includes but is not limited to: brick, turf, and wooden planks which can sometimes be uneven) + Have the ability to project their voice for sustained periods of time and be able to command the attention of groups of up to 50 people + Exhibit excellent time management skills and able to complete tours in the allotted time given + Be flexible; having the ability to think on their feet and adjust tours based on unexpected situations that may be encountered + Respond in all situations with courtesy and professionalism + Provide excellent guest service skills, remembering at all times that as a representative of the city of Saint Charles, it is the HisTOURy Guide's job to welcome visitors and share their energy and enthusiasm for the area to our guests from around the world. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions + Flexibility of schedule: willingness to work weekends, evenings, and fill in when necessary. + Willingness to go above and beyond listed duties.
