This opportunity allows partial telework with management approval. The Maine CDC Infectious Disease Prevention Program provides services which support the improvement of the health and well-being of Maine residents living with and at risk for certain infectious diseases, such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), sexually transmitted Infections (STIs), Tuberculosis (TB), and hepatitis. The Infectious Disease Prevention Program addresses gaps in care, reduces health disparities, and reduces the risk of disease transmission. The Infectious Disease Prevention Program is looking for a Public Health Educator to work with the HIV, STI, and hepatitis prevention programs. As the Public Health Educator III you will be responsible for developing, supporting, and evaluating HIV, STI, and Hepatitis Testing Programs. You will provide program support by evaluating services purchased from community-based organizations, training, and conducting technical assistance to a variety of governmental and non-governmental agencies, and facilitating of a variety of special initiatives and work groups. Core Responsibilities: As a key member of the HIV/STI team, your core responsibilities will include: • Developing, implementing and evaluating integrated HIV, STI and Hepatitis prevention interventions; • Working with clinical and community based providers; • Participating in local, regional and national advisory groups; • Reviewing monthly HIV, STI and Hepatitis Data; • Providing technical and administrative support for the Program Manager and the division as needed; • Facilitating special work groups to promote the prevention of HIV, STI and Hepatitis as well as other infectious diseases as required; • Maintaining required data for state and federal reporting. Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Health Education and two (2) years’ experience in community or health education program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. Directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Preferred candidates will also have: • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Knowledge and experience with public health systems and infectious diseases. • Knowledge of and experience with HIV, STD and Hepatitis transmission factors and control methods. • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners. • Computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and graphic design. • Ability to work with managers and staff to identify training needs and research information on training/meeting opportunities, or to provide outreach materials for systems in need of technical assistance.
