HMA Mix Design Specialist

Position Summary
Laboratory position for the development of new hot mix asphalt (HMA) products to ensure that every mix and its component materials comply with the applicable specifications and excels life expectancy. Conduct research and review the research of others to improve the company’s product catalog to achieve full potential around quality and performance while enabling innovation and sustainable solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task. Follow standard to inspect, sample and test aggregates, asphalt, or other materials. Development of Mix designs and extensive knowledge on TxDOT, City and FAA specifications. Prepare and record accurate information on mix design development; maintain an organized database. Obtain required certifications in a timely manner. Consistently look for ways to improve and promote quality. Assist internal and external customers to develop solutions in a timely manner. Follow quality control plans or guidelines as assigned. Perform general cleaning of work areas. Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies. Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations; perform other duties as assigned.
Work Requirements
Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check. Must pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical. Must be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document. Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Report to work at the designated start time. Must be able to work overtime when required. Ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions, extreme heat and cold. Must have valid driver’s license and meet the qualifications of the fleet safety program. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co–workers or supervisors with other duties as required. Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA. Must be at least 18 years of age due to nature of working environment. The ability to work well under pressure and be a self-starter.
Education / Experience
Minimum high school diploma general education degree (GED) required. 3+ years of Asphalt Testing and Mix Design related experience. Level 2 HMA Mix Design Specialist preferred. Good understanding of Balanced Mix Design methodology and performance tests.
