POSITION: Home Health Aide (HHA) Social Adult Day Care (SADC) Program
MAIN FUNCTION:
Home Health Aides are unlicensed, non-professional workers.
The HHA is a member of the service team, working under the guidance and supervisor. The HHA is expected to continue developing his/her skills and abilities in the function he/she performs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list is not exclusive but is indicative of those types of procedures in which a HHA may participate. Each resident care plan will outline the exact procedures a HHA is expected to carry out for the individual.
A. Give personal care:
+ Bath – bed, chair, tub, shower
+ Assist with toileting needs
+ Comb hair/shampoo
+ Denture, mouth/care
+ Make bed
+ Help with dressing
+ Help with walking
+ Transfer patient from bed to chair
+ Nail filing/cleaning unless diabetic or contradicted by nurse
+ Feeding/recording intake and output as needed
B. Give special care:
+ Accompany patients to medical care appointments
+ Help with use of appliances, i.e. wheelchairs, walker, crutches, hearing aides as demonstrated
+ REMIND ONLY with medication.
C. Assist the SADC staff with the program, which includes the following but is not limited to:
+ Provide a continental breakfast and lunch for the participants;
+ Supporting participant’s involvement in individual or group activities of their choosing, with the people of their choosing and meeting participant needs where applicable;
+ Supporting and assisting the participant in completing activities of daily living of their choosing while at program as appropriate for safety and the participants’ abilities, if applicable.
+ Assisting with community outings.
+ Assistance with self-administration of medications for participants who require assistance as per their physician’s order;
D. Promote the patient’s mental alertness through conversation, reading, games, and other activities.
E. Report any changes in patient’s mental or physical condition to the Director of SADC.
F. Give simple emotional and psychological support to the participants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ The HHA must successfully complete an approved training course to carry out assigned Activities.
+ Be 18 years of age, show maturity, emotional and mental stability.
+ Shall be able to speak, read and write English, and speak the predominant language of the resident.
+ Understand and carry out directions and instructions, record messages, and keep simple records.
+ Sympathetic attitude towards providing services for the participants.
+ Have good physical health, as indicated by documentation in the Human Resources Files.
+ Must participate in 12 or more hours of in-service education per year.
