Hopper Assistant Engineer

Job Description: 

An Assistant Engineer is responsible for performing general vessel engineer duties under supervision of the Chief Engineer.

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  

Develop understanding of Weeks Marine engineering, operations, policies and procedures Stand engine room watch on assigned vessel Perform routine engine maintenance and repairs Maintain engine room daily logs  Maintain engine room parts inventory and stocks as needed Transfer fuel, oil and water to and from the vessel Follows company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “incident and injury free” work environment

 

Qualifications:

 

3-5 years total Marine experience with at least one year experience as a Licensed Engineer (preferred) High School diploma or equivalent (preferred) Demonstrated mechanical aptitude Experience in Marine Construction and Dredging (preferred) Strong knowledge of industry related software (preferred) Must be able to understand written and verbal safety commands in English Ability to work rotational 12-hour watch Ability to work 21 days on, 21 days off, revised as necessary

 

 

Certification/Licenses:   

 

Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with the following endorsements:

Licensed 3rd Assistant Engineer or higher OICEW Basic Training STCW Medical Certficate Able Seafarer – Engine VPDSD RFPEW Advanced Firefighting

This position also requires a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

 

Physical Requirements: 

 

Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders  Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted

Position is through a collective bargaining agreement between Master Mates & Pilots Union and Weeks Marine, Inc.
