As the Hospital Administrator of VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center Specialty Hospital, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a thriving environment for Associates while ensuring exceptional patient care and client service. Leading a diverse team, you'll prioritize their needs, encouraging peak performance and providing resources to enhance job satisfaction and mental well-being. Supported by the Regional Operations team and collaborating closely with the hospital's Medical Director, you'll oversee business operations, uphold VCA's standards of excellence, and maintain profitability. Together, you'll nurture a culture of trust, respect, and enthusiasm, vital for success within the VCA community.
In this dynamic role, you'll oversee a spectrum of administrative activities, including managing finances, marketing, staffing, and human resources. Your leadership will guide approximately 100 Associates, comprising doctors, technicians, veterinary assistants, and paraprofessional staff, ensuring their professional growth and fulfillment. Skills and Qualifications
• Successful experience as a manager of (or in a management capacity within) a large animal hospital (or facility), having at least 20+ direct reports.
• Experience working in the veterinary industry is preferred.
• At least 4+ years of experience of managing business financials and budgeting.
• Knowledge of sales and marketing techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially to a diverse range of audiences and settings.
• The ability to make decisions, delegate responsibility, and achieve results with hospital team members.
• Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, positive attitude.
• Respect for and willingness to work with clients and their pets.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks and deal with an environment of changing priorities.
• Proven ability to engage, develop, inspire and build teams, as well as promote and practice accountability.
• High level of emotional intelligence is required.
Job Responsibilities
• Direct and develop the veterinary, technical and administrative staff towards the goal of quality patient care and excellent client service; assist in the formulation of objectives and policies to ensure efficient and profitable hospital operations.
• Oversee the hiring, reviewing, disciplining and terminating of professional staff, in accordance with and with the approval of the Regional Management team.
• Review the P&L Report monthly and partner with the Hospital Medical Director to increase revenue and limit expenses; work with home office to prepare and submit the yearly budget (budget forecast, operating plan, cap-ex expenditures) and participate in the evaluation process with Regional Management team.
• Model an “owner” mentality in hospital by demonstrating a willingness to assist all employees in making the practice a success; invest the necessary amount of time to accomplish the required responsibilities and ensure the smooth operation of the hospital.
• Minimizing patient stress and discomfort; recommend referral to another VCA doctor or specialist when this is likely to significantly improve the prognosis.
• Maintain client/patient medical/surgical records and make certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols; assist colleagues in follow-up and future management of the patient.
• Supervise the administration and case review of client medical complaints.
• Positively represent the hospital and VCA in the professional community and to the general public.
VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays and sick days, health and well-being programs that provide resources and training. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The annual salary range for this position is $100-115k. This position may also be eligible for other variable pay programs.
