General Function: + Assigning ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes with CPT codes and modifiers where applicable to the records of discharged patients. + Expediting coding of these records as accurately and efficiently as possible to achieve maximum accounts receivable. + Assigning Present on Admission indicators is also necessary to ensure the most accurate DRG is captured. + Inpatient coding steers reimbursement and the case mix for the facility. + Accuracy and competence is an essential part of coding to ensure appropriate code assignments. + Ongoing team participation and continual learning of coding skills is necessary to provide SCRMC with quality coding. Job Duties: + Assign appropriate code for all records (Inpatient and Outpatient) to include all financial classes utilizing ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS and CPT systems with compliance of Medicare, Medicaid, and standard coding guidelines + Correspondence with physicians regarding coding/documentation issues + Knowledge of DNFB - ability to retrieve and code as deemed necessary + Assist in training new personnel + Assist Utilization Review, Admissions and Patient Accounts staff as necessary + Enhance professional growth and development through education programs as offered + General office knowledge to help in all areas of the department as may be necessary + AHIMA, AAPC or similar coding certification
