Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is monitoring the open dining sections of the restaurant for empty and cleaned tables, estimating wait times for guests, monitoring the guest waiting list, and ensuring that the needs of the guests are met while they are waiting. The hostess is often responsible for answering the telephone, booking reservations and moving tables together to accommodate large parties.

Responsibilities Greet guests in a friendly and professional mannerSeat guests at appropriate tables as per the seating chartProvide guests with menusOrganize and prepare reservationsAcknowledge and greet all guests, anticipate guest needs, and respond to guest inquiries or requestsAnswers telephones with enthusiasm and in a professional manner at all timesEnsure restaurant is set to proper lighting upon openingCommunicate with all guests to ensure quality satisfaction with food and beverage serviceClean and reset tables as requiredCommunicate with management, kitchen staff, and serving staff to ensure effective customer flowWith assistance from the management team plan parties and special eventsPerforms additional responsibilities although not detailed, as requested by a managerFollows daily checklists and side work. Set-ups, stocks and breakdown of service and dining room following procedures. Completes all assigned cleaning duties. Complies with direction and instruction from the management team.Contributes to a professional workplace that maximizes employee moral, productivity and effectiveness. Works well with a diverse FOH and BOH staffAttends staff meetings to receive information and direction Qualifications

Qualifications:

Commitment to quality service, and food and beverage knowledgeMust have strong communication skillsAbility to work calmly and effectively under pressureMust have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated and organizedMust be able to work under moderate supervisionMust have an unexpired tips certificationMaintains a clean and professional image at all timesAbility to understand and follow written and verbal instructionsSpeaks to guests with enthusiasm at all timesMust be able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including weekends and holidaysMust be at least 18 years of ageMust be able to demonstrate competency as outlined in the training scheduleExcellent people skills and outgoing personalityExperience in a hospitality industry in similar positionParticipate in a team oriented working environmentMust have knowledge of the floor plan and table numbers as outlined in training  

Physical Requirements:

This position will spend 95% of the time standing and 5% of the time sittingThe individual must be able to transport up to 50 pounds on occasion and up to 35 pounds regularlyAbility to bend and reach above head holding up to 10 pounds frequently

Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat and waterMust show ability to work in a fast paced environmentAbility to work in a team oriented environmentPossesses stamina and energy to remain active and move quickly for up to 10 hour shiftsAbility to hear, understand and respond to guest and staff requests in a loud environment
