Summary This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services at the VA Medical Center located in Milwaukee, WI. Responsibilities The Housekeeping Aid (HKA) Supervisor - Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as a HKA Supervisor-EVS Technician means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff. As a HKA Supervisor-EVS Technician, you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties, instructing and following routine housekeeping duties. Veterans rely on the skills of these professionals to keep patient areas clean and safe. Duties include: Follows oral and written instructions, interprets policies and work procedures as given by the supervisor. Follows customary work cycles and sequences in planning work assignments. Instructs and supervises employees in work operations, conducts inspections of work in progress and completed to ensure cleaning and sanitation objectives and standards have been met. Understand and communicate proper infection prevention control procedures and guidelines. Understands instructions from the immediate supervisor and effectively communicates these instructions to subordinates in a clear manner to preclude any confusion in job performance. Plans the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials, on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Tracks and reports progress on work assignments and requests authority to adjust worker assignments and to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules. Reads, understands, and follows the equipment manufacturers' instructions on how to properly operate, clean and maintain equipment. Ensures the cleaning of interior surfaces, general sanitation, cleanliness and associated housekeeping responsibilities located within assigned area. Familiar with proper environmental sanitation safety techniques and procedures. Understands and communicates the differences between types of disinfectants and their chemical composition. Effectively communicate work requirements, methods, and procedures as needed. Assigns work to individuals and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes. Investigates and resolves excessive or low productive problems. Responsible for making decisions regarding workload adjustments for work assignments between healthcare system facilities, various tours for coverage of weekends and holidays, and reaction to variations in the workplace and emergency situations. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials. Education Not applicable.
