Habitat for Humanity International seeks a Housing Opportunities and Mission Engagement (HOME) Communications Manager to provide strategic communications counsel and planning, narrative creation, storytelling and messaging support for the ongoing implementation of Habitat’s global HOME team strategy and initiatives, in alignment with overarching organizational and brand strategies.
Reporting to the Director, Program Communications with cross-functional reporting to the HOME team, the Housing Opportunities and Mission Engagement (HOME) Communications Manager will work collaboratively with Global Communications senior leaders, the HOME team, and teams including organizational communications, employee communications, public & media relations, regional communications in different parts of the world, content strategy and creative. The position also partners with colleagues in U.S. Office, Knowledge Management, regional area offices, senior leadership and within various teams across the Habitat network.
The Housing Opportunities and Mission Engagement (HOME) Communications Manager will play an important role in advancing Habitat’s programs and services, identifying and acting on opportunities to integrate equity and inclusion-related communication efforts across the Habitat network, both internally and externally. They will serve as a convener and project manager, leading efforts across Habitat teams to coordinate and drive consistent use of terminology and equitable storytelling strategies and best practices and develop content highlighting team successes and learning opportunities internally to HFHI staff and externally to various audiences.
Initiatives and programs to highlight include Building the Beloved Community, Courageous Community Conversations, gender equity work, and people-centered design, among others, as well as region/country-specific focus areas such as indigenous rights and the nuanced approaches to diversity and faith in each of the 70+ countries in which Habitat operates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Minimum:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field. 5-7 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing spanning global geographies. Proven global experience in equitable and inclusive communications. Lived or professional experience working on a global team and/or within an INGO or company with multicultural, global audiences. Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural competencies and organizational and project management skills that demonstrate an ability to successfully collaborate with diverse global audiences and stakeholders. Excellent writing, speaking, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics and demonstrate a flexible, conversational tone. Passionate about the opportunity to create communications approaches that help weave an organization’s strategies into its work and culture. High level of attention to detail and accuracy and highly organized, with strong time management skills.Respect for a diversity of opinions and styles. Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word and PowerPoint, as well as common layout and design software associated with print and digital communication. Ability to write, edit, evaluate and curate compelling content through to completion while meeting brand, marketing and messaging needs.Preferred – in addition to minimum:
Understanding of organizational change management practice and considerations. Experience with fundraising organizations. Proven ability to influence across various and diverse global audiences and levels. Experience with social media, web-based and digital communication. Fluency in Spanish or a language in addition to English. The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience.
