The Department of Residence Life at the University of Pittsburgh welcomes applications for the position of Resident Director. Applicants should be dedicated to working in an environment that is highly focused on student development and support. Further, applicants should have a commitment to their own personal and professional development and have a desire to be a collaborative member of a team. The full-time Resident Director will live on campus and is responsible for developing a dynamic learning environment in residence halls of 400-800 students in the city of Pittsburgh.
Oversees and manages the University’s residential facilities, residence life educational programs, residentially-based academic communities, residence life student and professional staff, and all promotional communications for the department. Ensures the safety and security of residents and development of the departmental comprehensive emergency management plan. Facilitates operational decisions within broadly defined parameters that require a high level of judgement. Establishes the direction, goals, implementation strategy, and policies of the department. Performs budgetary functions.

A commitment to student interaction and mentoring, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, leadership and supervision of a student staff of 8-18, develop community engagement plans with student staff and promote University efforts to connect students to campus, promote holistic learning and student wellness, crisis management and follow-up, leadership and collaboration with Living Learning Communities and university partners, manage conflict intervention and follow-up, manage student conduct to provide student accountability and growth, participate in an on-call duty rotation, coordinate maintenance and facilities issues with housing staff, act as an onsite liaison for university partners in emergency situations, advise a residential hall council, effectively communicate in both in one on one and group settings, membership on a departmental and/or university strategic team/committee, develop and participate in departmental level leadership opportunities
