Housing Specialist- Independent Living (IL) - Brevard, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties
Salary: $52,000/year POSITION OBJECTIVE: This position coordinates housing activities for IL youth in Brevard, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties. The Housing Specialist serves as a single point of contact for youth, case managers and community landlords. This position provides information and direct referrals to address the housing needs of youth transitioning out of care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Cultivate relationships throughout the service area with landlords, host homes, and transitional housing providers that provide affordable, flexible rental housing options. Conduct presentations in the community to groups of landlords, transitional housing providers, and college housing professionals on housing needs of IL youth. Offer workshops and one-on-one consultation to case managers, foster parents, and IL youth on topics such as finding housing and completing applications for housing and utilities, understanding a lease, housing maintenance, tenant rights and responsibilities, landlord rights and responsibilities. Provide information and referrals for youth seeking to obtain transitional housing/apartments/dormitory living arrangements throughout the service area, including affordable and low-income housing programs. Assist in developing a newsletter, brochures, and other written materials for youth about housing options and other housing related issues. Compile, maintain and distribute comprehensive housing information for the tri-county area. Assist in obtaining feedback from the public to evaluate services and implement changes as needed. Record statistical data and assist in contract reporting requirements. Function as resource for youth and collaborate with legal representatives regarding landlord/ tenant issues. Participate in the agency strategic plan and quality improvement processes. Ability to safely & successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, & local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards. Ability to comply with all personnel policies & procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and minimum of two years of experience in housing or social service-related field. PREFERRED: Background in Real Estate or Property Management. Experience working with at risk populations. SKILLS: Excellent organization and communication skills and highly self-motivated to work independently. Ability to build relationships and collaborate with other professionals and non-professionals. Highly sensitive to the needs of youth transitioning out of care. Ability to organize information and workload to accomplish tasks quickly and accurately. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence & sensitivity to population served. Ability to travel. SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Thorough Background Screening upon hire including FBI, FDLE, Local Law check, Employment Reference check, DMV check, Criminal Records check, Social Security Trace & Drug Screening. FDLE check will be run at least every 5 years. On-call assignments- Yes Available to work flexible hours to meet the needs of families in the program. Travel- local: 50% per week, long-distance: 0% per week. Attend at least 15 hours of in-service training annually.
