HPF Physician Liaison

Position Summary:

In order to allow for timely completion of the health record, the HPF Physician Liaison will review discharged patient’s record for incomplete or missing items, identify the responsible practitioner for each of these items, and link the deficiencies to the appropriate physician for completion. The HPF Physician Liaison will be responsible for verifying chart completion and monitoring the reanalysis queue to ensure all records are completed appropriately. This position will also be responsible for timely notification to physicians of pending records that need completion, identifying those physicians who will be suspended and notifying appropriate hospital personnel and departments of physician suspension. The HPF Physician Liaison will be responsible for creating new electronic forms for the health record and will work with Information Technology to get these in the E-forms format.

Qualifications:

A. Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

B. Training and Experience:

At least 3 years verifiable experience in an acute care hospital medical record department. This position requires the ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in written, auditory, or visual fashion is essential. The methods used to express or exchange ideas are by spoken or written word. Written telephone and manual dexterity skills are also required. Must be able to work unsupervised, be self motivated, with excellent customer service skills.

C. Job Knowledge:

Knowledge of the Medical Staff Bylaws in regard to chart completion. Knowledge of Privacy laws both for the State of Texas and HIPAA. Must be able to type 40 words per minute with extensive PC knowledge and skills that are verifiable through testing or previous job experience.

Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

This position requires being seated at a video monitor almost 95% of the time. A small amount of physical work which may include lifting a maximum of 20 pounds or carrying and filing of medical records/documents weighing up to 10 pounds. Filing records requires reaching, pulling, bending and stooping. The potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens, body fluids, or potentially infections material is minimal.
