Position Summary
We are looking for a leader with strong technical healthcare professional liability underwriting skills to help build out the guidelines, policies and procedures for A newly formed team.
The ideal candidate will have:
experience underwriting excess healthcare professional liability on an insurance and reinsurance basis.
a strong understanding of actuarial rating models and various rating approaches for excess healthcare professional liability.
A deep knowledge of healthcare professional liability excess policy wording and reinsurance agreements.
Experience in drafting and executing underwriting guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate in the development of underwriting tools, guidelines, policies and procedures for the following areas:
Underwriting appetite
Referral criteria
Underlying coverage analysis
Pricing
Manage underwriting referrals
Aid in the development of forms and endorsements for both insurance and reinsurance policies.
Cultivate relationships with internal and external contacts to facilitate the underwriting process, promote business development, and to remain abreast of industry trends.
Serve as a resource to other staff with regards to underwriting tools, guidelines, policies and procedures.
As required, work with Underwriters in the analysis of large, complex healthcare risks to determine the appropriate structure, terms and conditions required to profitably write the account.

While this position will not initially require direct management of staff, it will require some management of the underwriting referral process.
Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements
Experience
7-10 Years Relevant underwriting or broking experience in HPL or related fields with experience in large account underwriting, loss rating and form analysis.
Education
Minimum 4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree
Certification, Licenses and Designations
Studies toward attaining a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or equivalent insurance designation depending on specialty area
Other
Possess and have ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Travel Requirements
25% - 50% of time
