HR Advisor

Requirements: 

Demonstrable experience in a generalist HR advisory role. Dealing with other HR Matters across a business within a fast-paced environment. ER knowledge and experience of case management, best practice, and processes. Experience of working within a manufacturing unionised environment is preferred. Good understanding of Employment Law with an up to date and comprehensive knowledge of UK employment law, HR policies and procedures and best practice. Able to prepare and produce correspondence, such as letters and legal documentation. Strong Time Management skills with the ability to prioritise and multi tasked a busy workload.  Able to build trust and solid working relationships. Strong business acumen and commercial awareness. Practical and logical and able to solve problems quickly. Confident, self-motivated, and excellent influencing skills.  Experience of managing challenging stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, able to adapt and build rapport/provide advice to all levels. Highly organised and responsive, with the ability to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines. Confident and tenacious, taking ownership of issues to resolution in a timely manner. Trustworthy, with ability to maintain confidentiality. Resilient  An active listener who is naturally inquisitive and able coach people to reach a solution. Experience and proficient in using HR databases - GPS oracle and TMS and strong IT skills Microsoft office (Work/Excel/PowerPoint etc.)  CIPD qualified or equivalent experience 

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced HR Advisor within our Exeter based HR team, reporting to the HR Manager.

You will be working in very fast-paced environment and will be accountable for providing a front-line HR and Employee Relations policy and process advice service to Howmet’s employees and managers. This role requires someone with experience of delivering a professional HR service, preferably in a manufacturing environment or similar. 

The successful candidate will need to be highly resilient, used to working under pressure, organised, and have a detailed knowledge of employee relations, HR processes and policies and systems, while ensuring compliance with employment legislation, best practice, and internal procedures to provide appropriate and effective support to the business operations.

Key responsibilities:    

HR Policy, Process and System Queries

Be the first line contact for all employees, supervisors, and site/department managers across the business for all people matters. Providing a professional front-line advisory service that supports employees and managers with HR policy, process, and system queries; aiming to resolve as many at first point of contact as possible. Responding to queries received through a variety of channels, by phone, face to face, email and written communication. Support the review, update and implementation existing HR policies and procedures and associated documentation including forms, in line with employment legislation and best practice.  Maintain case management dashboards. Support the preparation of HR policies for employees’ access on the internal drives.

Employee Relations (ER)

Support the HR Manager in the delivery of a professional, proactive, expert telephone and written ER advisory service to managers across the business, focused on achieving the best outcomes for both the business and our employees.  Managing cases such as conduct matters, capability, and other employee relations issues. This may include reviewing investigation reports and complex letters or communications. Experience of working in a fast paced, unionized environment. Leading the delivery of a professional, proactive, expert telephone and written ER advisory service to managers across the business, focused on achieving the best outcomes for both the business and our employees.  Support managers and supervisors in all aspects of employee relations and provide expert employment law advice. Managing cases such as conduct matters, capability, and other employee relations issues. This may include reviewing investigation reports and complex letters or communications. Coaching managers on all aspects of people management, including communication, robust decision making, fairness and consistency of application. Maintaining case management records to ensure they are clear, concise and in line with GDPR. Maintaining up to date Employment Law knowledge across the team via internal and external sources, in order to identify best practice/case law relevant to Howmet. Ability to case manage extremely complex, sensitive, or high-profile ER cases, as and when required. Review key learning points from cases/projects and to support changes, improvements and learning activity.

HR service Performance

Support absence management cases, ensuring that the appropriate Occupation Health recommendations are managed and applied successfully. Maintaining positive relationships with the wider business functions including Occupational Health, Health & Safety, Business operations and Trade Unions etc. Support the people strategy and implementation of HR initiatives. Responsible for the administration of leavers, ensuring final payments are made and employees complete the exit questionnaire. Maintain the efficient system for personnel files, ensuring employment legislation, GDPR and confidentiality is complied with at all times. Support HR Projects cross-functionally Deliver training, coaching and upskilling line managers in performance management. Support the identification of areas for improvement. Responsible for leading and producing the weekly and monthly HR metrics and to provide a comprehensive analysis of the data in preparation for presentation to the Plant Managers’ and the Corporate HR team. Responsible for the administration of all leavers, ensuring final payments are made and employees complete the exit questionnaire. Preparation of payroll information, ensuring this is submitted to the Payroll team along with the checking of the monthly payroll file. Responsible for preparing and processing periodic bonus payments and pay cycle amendments together with the associated employee documentation and communication Maintain the efficient system for personnel files, ensuring employment legislation, GDPR and
