Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to enhance our Surface Solutions Business Unit, where we have a workforce of approximately 200 employees. In addition to serving as the HR manager for Japan, this role will coordinate HR activities across the APAC region, which includes countries with smaller employee populations. However, the focus is on Japan, HR in the other countries is planned to be fully outsourced and this role only acts as the internal HR contact. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Japanese labor laws, fluency in Japanese and English, and experience in HR vendor management and post-merger integration. This position is vital as we prepare for the planned divestment of Surface Solutions. Join us in shaping the future of our business through impactful communication strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. HR Generalist Role in Japan:

Oversee all HR functions for the Japanese workforce, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation/benefit, and compliance with local labor laws and regulations.

Act as the primary HR contact for employees and management in Japan, ensuring HR policies and practices align with business goals.

Manage relationships with employee representatives, government agencies, and other labor-related entities to ensure compliance and constructive labor relations.

2. APAC HR Coordination:

Support HR operations in other APAC countries with smaller employee populations, ensuring local compliance and HR service delivery.

Act as a liaison between the Global HR team and APAC HR operations to drive alignment and consistency in HR policies and programs.

Partner with external HR vendors and consultants to address country-specific requirements across the APAC region.

3. HR Vendor Management:

Identify, manage, and evaluate HR service providers, such as payroll vendors, legal advisors, and recruitment firms, ensuring quality and value.

Negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with external vendors in Japan and the broader APAC region.

4. Post-Merger Integration:

Lead or support HR integration efforts for mergers, acquisitions, or divestments impacting Japan or the APAC region.

Align HR practices and systems with the newly carved-out business structure.

Support change management initiatives and ensure seamless integration from an HR perspective.

5. Strategic HR Initiatives:

Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives that align with business objectives in Japan and the APAC region.

Promote employee engagement and retention through effective HR programs and communication.

Ensure compliance with global HR policies while addressing local nuances and legal requirements.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

At least 6–8 years of progressive HR experience, with a strong focus on Japanese labor laws and HR practices.

Fluency in Japanese and English (both written and spoken).

Proven experience in HR vendor management and working in multinational environments.

Familiarity with post-merger integration and organizational change management.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across various levels and cultures.

Results-driven and adaptable, with a problem-solving mindset.

Willingness to travel occasionally within the APAC region.

What We Offer:

A unique opportunity to lead HR operations in Japan and support the broader APAC region within a dynamic, global organization.

Exposure to diverse HR challenges and the ability to shape HR practices for a newly independent business unit.

Competitive compensation and benefits package.
