The Environmental Health and Safety Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and managing a variety of the Site’s environmental and safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all employees. This will be achieved by providing support to foster optimal environmental protection and preventing injury to employees along with preventing damage to property and equipment. This is an onsite role with site presence required all 5 days of the week.

 

The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with other departments and managers to provide support to the overall operation as this position will interface with almost every area of the operations.  This includes working closely with Production, Quality, Facilities to ensure the best business solutions.  Individual must foster a positive, encouraging, and team environment and communicate proactively any issues/concerns.

Responsibilities

Job Functions:

 

Ensure compliance to environmental and safety standards through inspections of operating areas, audits, operation readiness reviews, and review of and approval of operating procedures. Coordinate and support waste disposal and other environmental activities.Advise and actively participate in risk hazard evaluations of existing processes, equipment and all new capital investments. Participates in annual audits of the Safety and Environmental Management Systems.Provide timely resolutions of identified safety concerns/issues by determining the underlying root causal factors, establishing action plans and priorities, expediting repair and providing technical assistance.Promote safety consciousness among employees by providing accurate and informative data, conducting safety meetings and training, giving timely feedback on safety suggestions and visibly supporting the plant safety program.Routinely audit all PSM (Process Safety Management) elements to ensure compliance and identify improvements and best practices. Identifies/secures necessary resources needed and leads the effort to close gaps. Leads the Hazardous Energy Control Program for the SiteConducts LDAR functions as part of overall equipment program under EPA Regulations.Leads, facilitates or participates in site incident investigations to determine root causes of incidents. Work within ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Management Systems. Participate in audits and work to close corrective actions as well as close gaps as identified.Conducts inspections and audits as related to ISO programs, LDAR inspections, LOTO inspections, weekly and monthly inspections of emergency equipment as well as others as assigned.Supports the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Facility.Support the Site HSE Manager for site specific safety tasks to support Regional and Global safety objectives.Other safety tasks as assigned. Qualifications

 

 

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree in safety or technical field of study requiredMinimum 3+ years’ experience managing safety and environmental program in chemical, or manufacturing industry requiredWastewater Treatment Operator license preferred (II or greater). If not, must be able to get it within first year of employmentExperience in implementing training and EH&S programsStrong interpersonal and communication skillsRCRA, Hazwoper, DOT certification preferredKnowledge and expertise in EPA, DEP Regulations, OSHA, ISO 14001 and 45001, HAZOP, TSCA NFPA, and PSM.Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations.
