HSE Manager
MAIN PURPOSE:
Ensure effective implementation of Sustainability, Safety, Health and Environment (SSHE) programs at the Bangalore, India locations – CS R&D Breeding (BRDC) site, Biotech Research Centre (BRC), Global Business Solutions (GBS) office, remote breeding testing locations across India and proposed Field Solutions site in Bangalore. Support implementation of South Asia Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Management Systems programs conforming to OHSAS 18001 standards, Bayer Corporate requirements (KR 2055), Indian regulatory requirements and industry best practices.Member of APAC CS R&D breeding HSE community
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage SSHE programs for the current Bangalore BRDC, BRC, GBS locations and future expansionResponsible to maintain compliance with applicable legal, regulatory and Bayer requirementsResponsible for site SSHE emergency management, incident investigation, legal compliance, Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (HIRA), Job Safety Assessment (JSA) & other site-specific programs.Ensure up-to-date SSHE regulatory permits are in place. This includes all relevant air, water, wastewater, hazardous chemicals and solid/ hazardous/ biomedical/ e-waste/ plastic waste management and safety - construction and operating permits.Ensure site SSHE system and documentation is robust to the standard of ISO 18001 and 14001Conduct thorough SSHE review of any new capital project for Appropriation Request (AR) approval in SAP. Work with site management to facilitate the implementation of contractor safety program for any ongoing construction activities including coordination and conducting pre-construction meetings, work in progress (WIP) audits, and pre-start up audits.Train employees and promote reporting of safety suggestions (SS), Near miss (NM), behaviour-based safety (BBS) observations in IT tool (Intelex) and support business to implement a corrective action planConduct internal SSHE audits and support business to implement a corrective action planPrepare and deliver all relevant HSE training programsCoordinating with various SSHE vendors - including monitoring and PPE suppliers, etc.Monitor performance and effectiveness of SSHE programs. Develop and leverage existing digital tools, analyze data to derive insights and advise on appropriate measures to prevent accidents. Do regular inspection of site labs, operational areas and field operationsWork with business to implement off-the-job safety programs including but not limited to Road Safety, going beyond site legal requirements. Support human rights implementation at site and field-testing locations and support site sustainability and community outreach activitiesCollaborate with Chandippa SSHE resource to ensure consistent approach across India breeding siteSupport South Asia digital transformation and other initiatives - Intelex implementation, Digital Risk Assessments, audits, etc.

WHO YOU ARE:
Graduate degree (bachelor’s in engineering preferred) Educational qualification or practical experience in SSHE program implementation6 years work experience – preferably in multinational company settingExisting knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of Indian SSHE legislation (legal / company requirements) including but not limited to state Factories Rules, Air Act, Water Act, Environmental Protection Act and all related Rules.Strong interpersonal, initiative/ foresight and excellent written/ verbal communication skillsAbility to travel 15% of work timeFluent in English and Kannada
