Job Title: HSE Teacher


Job Summary:


CASES is seeking a dedicated and experienced HSE (High School Equivalency) Teacher to join our Education, Career and Enrichment department. The HSE Teacher will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality instruction to help students prepare for and pass the HSE exam. This position requires strong teaching skills, a passion for adult education, and the ability to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. 


Shift Hours: The HSE Teacher is full-time Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm or 9:30 am-5:30 pm.

Location Address: 4 West 125th Street 3rd Floor New York, NY 10027. Our office is easily accessible by public transportation. 

Workplace Flexibility: Hybrid, an employee can work remote (from home or at another suitable space) one day a week, with exceptions to scheduled meetings and trainings.

Salary: The salary for the HSE Teacher role is $52,488 per year.


What you will be doing: 

Provide a safe learning environment for students, filled with opportunities to experience success, academic advancement, and support.Teach all subjects of the GED test: Math, Science, Writing, Reading, and Social Studies.Develop curriculum maps and level-appropriate lesson plans that promote balanced literacy and student-centered instruction, addressing multiple learning styles.Lead educational field trips and contribute to planning of events and celebrations.Administer the TABE assessment for new students.Teach customized classes to those who have passed some subjects of the GED.Plan and facilitate weekly Education enrichment group open to all CASES youth.Maintain and enter attendance in databases.Write progress notes for every student, with attention to those who are mandated to services.Communicate with other staff about participants’ progress and challenges and collaborate to create success plans for students experiencing difficulties.Participate in weekly staff meetings.Provide tutoring to active participants as well as graduates, as time allows.Assist with external education referrals to appropriate settings and providers.Assist with development of and/or facilitate a Project-Based learning group for 14- and 15-year-olds during SYEP.In cases of inclement weather: provide instruction in virtual settings, including synchronous video classes and asynchronous assignments.Other duties as assigned by Team Leader or Director.

What we are looking for: 

Minimum High School diploma or equivalent (GED, TASC) along with a demonstration of academic capacity to meet the needs of the position - Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts.Experience with academic instruction teaching youth/young adults.Familiarity with all subjects on the GED.Demonstrated ability to engage, support and motivate disconnected youth.Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students and staff;Classroom management practices rooted in positive youth development principles.Willingness to participate in professional development both internally and externally.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Commitment to developing a safe learning environment. Open to working in a collaborative environment.
