Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the HSE Technician is the identification, measurement, and evaluation of safety and environmental hazards.  Following assessments of the associated risks, reports are compiled, with recommendations, that reduce harm to people and our planet.  Duties include testing, sample collection, and observation of workplace practices.  Data is collected, recorded, and presented in technical reports to the Senior HSE Manager.  The HSE Technician assists Operations and HSE management with “risk-free culture” building, audits and inspections, regulatory compliance, policy enforcement, investigations, and workforce training.

This position is a “shared service,” i.e., based in our Hoosick Falls, NY plant three (3) days a week, with secondary responsibilities at our Green Island, NY plant two (2) days a week.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Health & Safety

Assist with safety committee meeting preparations, minutes, and communicationsAssist with incident reporting and investigationsConduct inspections, audits, and assessmentsHazard identification, risk analysis, and mitigationsPlan, organize, schedule and conduct inspections of facilities, work areas and equipmentRecord data and compile for statistical analysis and reportsAssist with the development of a strong safety culture within the workforceAssist with command and control, and execution, of the Emergency Action Plan, as requiredAssist with verification, validation, and updates of all HSE procedures, work instructions, etc.

Environmental

Test workplaces for environmental hazards and risk, e.g., chemical or biological hazardsAssess environmental risks and supervise the implementation of proactive safe work solutionsMonitor site conditions, practices, and procedures for compliancePermit maintenance; i.e., maintain compliance with requirements and current permit statusConduct sampling, record data, and compile for statistical analysis and compliance reportsMaintain all required records and documentationSelect, implement, and monitor corrective actions to verify compliance and validityAssist with the development and deployment of HSE initiativesAll other duties as assigned

Education:

Associates Degree; Occupational Health & Safety, or Environmental Management

Experience:

Three (3) years in Occupational Health & Safety and/or Environmental Management role

Preferred Skills:

OSHA regulations, interpretation and applicationFamiliarity with federal, state, and local regulations related to HSE complianceEPA regulations, and Hazardous Waste ManagementRegulatory complianceRisk assessments, audits, inspections, and surveysAtmospheric, environmental, and data analysisProblem-solving abilitiesProject management skillsOccupational Health & Safety proceduresCommunication skills, verbal and writtenHealth, Safety, and Environmental trainingMicrosoft Office SuitePowerPoint, development and presentationFirst Aid/CPR/AED Certified, with training experience

Salary:

$65,000.00
