Responsibilities

The Cyclotron Engineer’s primary responsibility is to repair, calibrate, and maintain the cyclotron, PET chemistry systems, isolators, robotic systems, and other equipment found in a Radiochemistry laboratory. The cyclotron engineer will ensures that the equipment in the Radiochemistry lab is repaired in a timely manner, works reliably, is safe to operate and functions properly. The individual may also provide technical support for imaging and laboratory equipment as time allows. The individual will consistently demonstrate a mastery of the skills necessary to perform preventive maintenance, quality assurance testing, equipment calibrations, installations, and corrective maintenance on a variety of equipment. The individual will provide input to the buyers on service related topics and coordinate with project managers, facilities projects, and the vendor to ensure the equipment is installed properly for optimum performance. The individual will configure equipment to work properly on the hospital network, assure equipment firewalls, antivirus, and operating system software are properly configured, and work to ensure data security policies and procedures are being taken into consideration. The individual must have advanced analytical skills and be able to solve complex technical issues in a timely manner. Must be able to analyze electronic and electrical circuits, interpret error logs and formulate a complex repair plan while under pressure to get equipment working quickly. During corrective and preventative maintenance the individual will run software and hardware diagnostics, take measurements, make adjustments, and perform functional checks. A person in this position must be able to use oscilloscopes, analyzers, multi-meters, dosimeters, and other types of test equipment during the maintenance process, and document results and activities appropriately per policies and procedures. Stored energy, high voltage and high levels of ionizing radiation are risks the staff must contend with when working on equipment. The cyclotron engineer must carefully monitor the potential for radiation exposure and work to eliminate unnecessary exposure. The cyclotron engineer will adhere to rules, regulations, and policies regarding safe manufacturing production standards, radiation safety, and contingency plans in the event of equipment failure. The cyclotron engineer performs quality service, maintains records, follow safe practices and procedures in accordance with Mayo's policies and procedures and other applicable agencies (JCAHO, OSHA, FDA, etc.). On-call and overtime is often required as well as travel to other Mayo Clinic sites. This position may require starting early in the morning when the cyclotron is in operation. The staff must present a professional image and use excellent communication skills when dealing with staff, contractors, and vendors. This position will typically have more than five years of proven successful service experience.



Qualifications

Must have one of the below:

Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, engineering, electronics, or other technology related fields and 3 years of equipment service experienceAssociate of Applied Science degree in biomed electronics, electrical engineering, electronics, or other technology related fields and 5 years of equipment service experienceUS Military training in biomed electronics, electrical engineering, electronics, or other technology related fields, and 5 years of equipment service experience 

Including the following service experience:

Knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biology, medical terminologyComprehensive understanding of common clinical terminology and the medical practiceComprehensive knowledge of networks, computer hardware, computer software, and computer securityAdvanced level of professionalism Experience repairing cyclotrons, hot cells, PET Radiochemistry Synthesizers, robotic systems, analytical and instrumentation, extensive work experience, advanced technical training in a related fields, and manufacturer/vendor training certifications.

Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. 

Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Also, Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
