Human Machine Interface (HMI) Design Lead

Position Overview International Motors is seeking an Human Machine Interface (HMI) Design Lead. In the role, you will be supporting development of HMI/UX solutions for all International vehicles ranging from school buses to line-haul tractors. In your role as a Product Owner you will be responsible for leading the definition of key elements of the Human-Machine Interface (HMI), including interface design, interaction design, and information architecture, with a primary emphasis on in-vehicle displays. We are looking with someone that has a background in multiple HMI/UX roles such as user research, requirements development, and user testing and experience in working in Agile teams. You will lead and manage several projects in the role of a Product Owner and have accountability to lead, direct, and guide the implementation of plans which assure that International’s products meet or exceed targets for HMI attributes. Responsibilities Translate user insights and user needs to HMI/UX concepts or design proposals Demonstrate strong Product Owner skills, including backlog management, sprint planning, and prioritization of features and tasks to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines Develop wireframes, use cases, personas, and storyboards Identify, develop, and apply appropriate HMI criteria, tools, methodologies, and processes to truck and bus components and systems throughout the product development process Benchmark industry and non-industry user interfaces to identify and document current performance and future trends Collaborate with the rest of the HMI/UX team, Product Planning, Industrial Design, Engineering, and Program Management to develop vehicle-level HMI\UX solutions Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree At least 5 years of human-computer interaction, ergonomics, human factors engineering or human factors experience At least 1 year of lead experience OR Master’s degree At least 3 years of human-computer interaction, ergonomics, human factors engineering or human factors experience At least 1 year of lead experience OR At least 8 years of human-computer interaction, ergonomics, human factors engineering or human factors experience At least 1 year of lead experience Additional Requirements Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. International Motors does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status) Desired Skills • Background in human-centered design, human factors, or human-computer interaction • Experience applying design and cognitive engineering principles to vehicle design • Experience with automotive or heavy truck user interface design • Experience in working in Agile teams • Experience in documentation and specification of UX concepts • Familiarity with automotive industry standards (ISO, SAE, NHTSA) and regulation related to HMI/UX • MS Office experience including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook • Experience with Figma or similar software tools • Experience presenting to all levels of an organization Benefits and Compensation We provide a competitive total rewards package which ensures job satisfaction both on and off the job.
