Human Resource Generalist
GFL Environmental is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in North York, ON! This hands-on operational role will appeal to a dynamic Human Resources generalist professional who has a demonstrated ability to connect with our front-line employees and drive positive change in a highly operational environment. Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Generalist will lead the implementation of HR strategy, in alignment with the overall organization, while serving as the key point of contact for HR needs in the GTA Area



 

Key Responsibilities:
• A hands-on partner to all levels of local leadership across the full spectrum of HR generalist duties, with an emphasis on driving a collaborative and open culture across the region.

• Collaboratively provide measured, objective, and sound employee and labour relations advice, interpreting and guiding operations with interpretations of both collective agreements and legislation.

• Provide coaching and sound judgement to supervisors and managers within the region regarding appropriately addressing employee performance, providing options and suggested resolutions to both labour and employee relations.

• Lead positive and inclusive engagement with employee groups, utilizing a straightforward communication style that focuses on transparency, sound planning and solutions-focused problem solving.

• Consult with GFL’s broader functional HR teams, supporting a broad spectrum of program implementation and change initiatives for assigned client groups.

• Monitor, interpret and analyze relevant HR and business metrics, interpreting and synthesizing data for senior level leadership.

• Other duties as assigned


Requirements:
• A high degree of comfort in an operational and evolving business environment.

• 3-5 years of experience in an operational HR generalist role, with demonstrated success in leading change management-based initiatives.

• Post-Secondary education in human resources coupled with a professional HR designation in place (or actively pursuing).

• Deep knowledge and experience of current Human Rights and Employment Standards legislation

• Experience in operational acquisitions and post-acquisition support is preferred.

• Ability to work independently, under pressure and adapt to evolving priorities and timelines.

• Travel across the region will be required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel
• Must be highly detail oriented and possess excellent organizational skills
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks as assigned.
• Must be able to work independently and manage time wisely.

Working Conditions:
• Work in indoor office environment 90% of the time.
• Travel via air and/or automobile required.
