Human Resources Assistant Director
Position Summary The HR Operations Director in Health Sciences at Michigan State University is a key leadership position responsible for providing strategic direction and operational guidance to the HR functions within the College of Human Medicine, College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Nursing, and MSU Healthcare. In this role, the Director will ensure cohesive and effective HR operations across these units. This position ensures alignment of HR operations with university-wide goals while addressing the specific needs of each health sciences unit. The Director reports directly to the AVP of HR in Health Sciences and works closely with HR leaders across all colleges to support faculty and staff affairs. Minimum Requirements • Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree in Human Resources Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field; • 3-5 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in higher education, healthcare, human resource and/or labor relations administration, project management, data and/or statistical analysis, program development and implementation and/or specific professional experience related to the human resource area of responsibility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices, particularly in higher education and healthcare settings. • Proven ability to lead HR teams in a matrixed or dotted line reporting structure. • Experience in faculty affairs or working with academic personnel is highly desirable. • Excellent project management, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead across multiple units and influence stakeholders at all levels. Desired Qualifications Master’s degree and significant experience in complex project management, supervision, process improvement and leveraging technology and systems to improve service quality, speed and cost. 7 - 10 years of HR leadership experience, preferably in higher education, healthcare, human resource and/or labor relations administration, project management, data and/or statistical analysis, program development and implementation and/or specific professional experience related to the human resource area of responsibility.
