Experience Cortland dives deep into the region’s offerings Major Responsibilities Performance Management Manage professional employee performance management including reappointment dates and timelines consistent with the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees. This includes issuing, tracking, and monitoring evaluation/performance program notices and following up with supervisors on overdue programs/evaluations. Maintain the evaluation database for professional employees determining appropriate dates for evaluations, renewals, non-renewals, and permanency Administer the performance management process for M/C employees Provide counsel and advice to managers and supervisors of the university to ensure best practices in performance management and adherence to related policies and procedures Send prior service credit letters to professionals and make determinations regarding service credit

Employee Relations Work closely with the Employee Relations Unit personnel to assist supervisors in the non-renewal process as outlined in the Policies of the Board of Trustees and/or bargaining unit agreement Partner with Employee Relations Unit personnel to assist with employee relations matters Conduct exit interviews Appointment Processing Process a variety of employment actions including appointments and reappointments, promotions, salary increases, paid and unpaid leaves, and retirements/terminations in the SUNY HR and Payserv information systems Process and finalize hiring proposals, assigning onboarding tasks to fully hire new employees within the SUNY HR Information System and applicant tracking system Maintain appointment records to accurately administer changes in appointment type, raises, longevity, and permanency salary increases per the bargaining unit’s contract
Position Classification Assist in the analysis and evaluation of job roles by gathering information on job duties, responsibilities, and qualifications against established classification standards and guidelines Review job descriptions and recommend appropriate job titles, grade levels, and pay ranges based on job evaluation findings and established classification systems and standards Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies regarding position classification Maintain the job description module within the applicant tracking system
Salary Administration Complete salary surveys and market analyses to help determine competitive salaries Update salary data in the faculty and professional salary plans Gather data in support of salary determinations and salary offers Ensure wage compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations and collective bargaining agreements
HR Analytics and Website Utilize Business Intelligence (BI) reporting within the SUNY HRMS system and other data sources to prepare reports pertaining to affirmative action, classification and compensation, staffing patterns, turnover, etc. that inform data-driven decisions regarding recruitment, retention, employee engagement and overall workforce strategy Manage, maintain, and make edits to the HR websiteIdentify opportunities for and work with Marketing to improve the HR website Assist with developing and maintaining the Classification and Compensation Team Dynamix page
Service Participate in campus wide committees where appropriate Attend a minimum of three events on campus per year including one diversity related program, event, or presentation Functional and Supervisory Relationships Position reports to the Compensation Manager, works closely and collaboratively with all HR and Payroll staff, and interacts with employees and supervisors across the campus


Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, psychology, economics, or a closely related field and a minimum of 1 year of experience working in Human Resources, or Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience working in Human Resources


Preferred Qualifications Employee relations experience Position classification and wage administration experience Experience gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data for reporting purposes Experience working in higher education Experience working in a unionized environment
